I will be starting a new blog series highlighting nonprofit communications. This series will examine the strategies used by nonprofit organizations in relation to how they choose to engage with their publics and promote their campaigns. Nonprofit organizations rely on the community for funding and recognition. Thus, their campaigns must be captivating both visually and contextually. Nonprofits must employ their publics to care about the issue they are attempting to mediate by shaping a clear identity and public image. I hope to further explore how nonprofits are able to successfully accomplish this goal by delving into a diverse range of organizations, topics and media strategies.
Growing up in Portland, I was surrounded by a myriad of nonprofit organizations attempting to impact life both close to and far from home. Additionally, the importance of giving back to the community was ingrained in me from a young age and I saw nonprofit organizations as the perfect example of an entity that made helping others/the community their prime mission. Working for a nonprofit is a career goal I hope to fulfill in the future. I am looking forward to exploring a wide variety of social causes advocated for by these organizations.
